AP Information and FAQ
Q: When is the AP Exam this year?
A: The 2016 AP Psychology Examination will be held on Monday, May 2, 2016, at 12:00 pm.
Q: How much does the AP Exam cost?
A: Approximately $91, much cheaper than the college credit you could potentially replace! There may be aid available to offset the cost.
Q: What is the exam format?
A: Section 1 consists of 100 multiple choice questions. It is 70 minutes long and accounts for ~65% of your score. Section 2 consists of 2 free response questions. It is 50 minutes long and accounts for ~ 35% of your score. There is a short break between sections.
Q: Do I have to take the exam?
A: LHS does not require students to sit for the AP Examination. I strongly believe that if you've put in the effort in the year-long course, you should seriously consider taking the exam. Some colleges may consider it detrimental to take an AP course and not the exam. However, I also realize it's not for everyone! We'll take plenty of practice exams and your unit scores can give you a good indication of AP potential. I'm happy to discuss individual concerns when registration time begins. We also offer an Intro to Psychology course for students interested in Psychology without the rigor of AP.
Q: What do the AP scores mean?
A: The AP Exam is graded on a 1-5 scale. Many colleges will accept a 3 or 4 as an acceptable score for credit, but you'll need to verify how your intended destination handles AP courses.
5 = Extremely well qualified to receive college credit. (~A+, A)
4 = Well qualified (~A-, B+, B)
3 = Qualified (~B-, C+, C)
2 = Possibly qualified
1 = No recommendation
Q: When are scores released?
A: 2015 scores were available starting July 6, 2015, at 6 p.m. College Board rolls out AP scores geographically and at an assigned time to avoid overwhelming the service.
The AP Psychology Exam: The AP Psychology Exam is 2 hours in length and includes both a 70-minute multiple-choice section and a 50-minute free-response section. The multiple-choice section accounts for 2/3 of the student’s AP Exam score, and the free-response section accounts for 1/3 of the student's score. The exam will be administered at Liberty High School on Monday, May 2, 2016, at 12:00pm (noon). All students enrolled in the course are expected to take the exam. Students who score a 3 or higher (on a 5 point scale) have potential earn college credit. You must individually research the college(s) you would like to attend to determine the score needed to earn credit. I will not do that research for you. Although, I know that UW takes a 4. Go Dawgs!
